In Video | Jason Statham Returns to Action With “Mutiny” in August

On August 20, Egyptian cinemas will witness the expected return of actor Jason Statham to the film genre that established his status as one of the most prominent Hollywood action stars, through his new film “Mutiny”, directed by Jean-François Richet. This work is based on rapid pace and direct confrontations, as part of a story that is set in an atmosphere of international conspiracies.

Statham stated, “I like this film type that is based on real physical performance. The character experiences continuous pressure and each decision could be a matter of life or death. Indeed, I love this realistic story type, for it is based on survival and intelligence, not just strength. Shooting at sea and on ships added a true challenge. We had to perform action scenes in an uncertain environment. This made the experience more realistic and serious. In “Mutiny”, we tried to offer a more realistic and harsh experience; the viewer feels each hit and moment of danger. The work was a great challenge; however, it is one of the projects I’ve recently enjoyed”.

Multiple scenes of the film were shot in different locations in Europe, between Malta and Britain. There was a vivid reliance on the practical performance of risky scenes instead of using visual effects. Statham prefers this style in most of his works. Additionally, the cast went through extensive training in close combat and military tactics to ensure the realism of scenes. Basically, the film includes a huge number of hand-to-hand combat and chases. Some action scenes were filmed in complex conditions; in industrial locations and enclosed areas. This added a more tense and realistic nature to the events.

The film tells the story of a former special forces operative who finds himself caught in a complex international conspiracy after being accused of a crime he did not commit. As events escalate, he embarks on an escape journey. He becomes chased by several parties and is forced to reveal the truth in order to save himself amidst a network of deception and betrayal.

The film is written by J.P. Davis and Lindsay Michel and produced by Lionsgate, MedRiver Pictures, Mutiny Films, and Punch Palace Productions. The film is distributed domestically by United Motion Picture and stars Jason Statham, Annabelle Wallis, Arnas Fedaravičius, Adrian Lester, Lee Charles, and Roland Møller.
